Word Is Out...

A teacher from the local high school approached one of our librarians about ghostie.  She wanted to know if what a student told her was true.

Uh-oh... we tried to keep this quiet, however, some of us have children and our children have friends....

Fortunately, she was very interested and not scared.  She was mainly curious.

She was told about the photos and the history behind them, but she wanted she wanted to see them for herself.  When she saw the photos she agreed that she could see the same little girl in pink that we did.

We aren't sure what any of this will lead to, if anything, but word is getting out there.

I Had To Go Back Inside...

My personal tree.

We had just closed up for the night. Everything was locked, shut-down and unplugged.  Chairs were tucked in. Books were put away. The DVD cart was empty.

We double checked to make sure the doors were locked.

Then we left.

Out in the parking lot, however, we saw that the big Christmas tree in the upstairs window was full of lights!  Dang it! The pages forgot to unplug it.  It's the weekend and it's in the big, main window upstairs for all the City to see... we can't leave it like that.

My co-worker and I look at each other and give a tiny little whine. We have to go back inside.  THIS, after the latest, big scare - we have to go back inside the library after hours... after dark.

In we go. "Don't scare me ghostie!" I say.  I hear giggles...  It's my co-worker giggling at me. "You know what happens to those that stick around after we close up." she teases.  I whine  a little more and flip on EVERY SINGLE light switch at the main panel.

"You come with me!" I tell her. "Well, I'm not staying here alone! Of course I'm going with you!"  she tells me.

We run upstairs. Literally. We are RUNNING up the stairs. Speed walking past the Sci-Fi section, we go to the tree, quickly unplug it and run back down stairs.  I give one more little order to the ghosties to NOT scare me and we flip off all of the light switches on the panel.

Off go a few more workroom lights and scurry out the employee entrance door we go.

In the parking lot once again, we nervously laugh, out of breath.  We didn't see anything more that night.  I haven't seen anything since.  However, I do remind the Pages to unplug everything upstairs. I've even taken to double checking them or unplugging everything, for them, if I have the time.

Out of the Corner of Your Eye

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a man.

He is leaning against the upstairs railing, just atop the stairs in the non-fiction section. He is looking down, just casually leaning on the railing, with a hand dangling over the rail.

When I look to see who is looking down on us, I see nothing.

There is no man standing there. There is nothing wrong with my eyes. I could feel someone looking at me.  Out of the corner of my eye, I could discern that he wore black and was standing upstairs, leaning on the rail.  You know that feeling.... that feeling that someone is watching you. You then look up. Normally, you see who is looking at you.

What is it you see, out of the corner of your eye, when no one is there?

What Do You See?

I don't want to influence your thinking, so I won't tell you too much of what/where we are seeing our Little Ghostie.

However, she is in the windows.  I'm a little disappointed as to how the photos appear because they are so small.  Fortunately, the librarian that snapped the photos also gave us an enlarged cropped area for two of them.

Tell me what you see.

The Land Has a History

A history of children and illness.  Many children and the school Master.

Illness carried thru the drinking water and a few other possibilities.

Dozens and dozens of children that were on this site of land over 100 years ago, became deathly ill and died.  Some parents losing their entire brood.

At one point the city closed down the school because of the sheer number of illnesses.

Heartbreaking.

Are you the only one Little Ghostie, or are your school chums with you?

What Child Doesn't Like To....

...play with the elevator buttons?

Our elevator will run on it's own late at night.  This has been witnessed by all of us.  The most compelling was by our Assistant Director. She was there, more than an hour after closing time when the elevator came back upstairs, opened up and went back down.

Often times it will open up downstairs -- after sitting idle for a long time. The door will open and upstairs it will go... opening it's door and then coming back down again.

What child doesn't want to push the elevator buttons?

Children Crying

She swore she heard a child crying, so she went back into the library to find the child.

She spoke out loud saying that the library was now closed and it was time to go home.

No one answered. The crying stopped. A child was not found.

Why are you crying little Ghostie?

Many a Strange Goings-On

Every Library is supposedly haunted.

Are they all really?

Is ours?

We aren't really sure.

What we do know is that we trust one another; therefore we trust that our experiences are true.

Everything from children laughing or crying to them reading a book.  It happens at our library.

Children Running

Non-Fiction Section
First we heard children running around upstairs. It was after hours, so we had to go back upstairs and find the kids. Tell them that the Library is now closed and they have to leave.

My co-workers looked all over, but they never found any children.

What was it they heard?

A Librarian Explains

From an email from Nov. 14, 2011 - one of the librarians involved explained how she felt after going back in.  I edited only to take out names.

You know, for years, many of us have had unexplained experiences and laughed them off. We have, as you know, joked about our ghost. But, the experience that we had on Saturday night was really something new. It was very distinct. It happened to both of us. We both heard the same things.

That was hard to shake. At the time we were both convinced that there was someone in the library. We though that someone had snuck back into the janitorial area and hid out until we closed/left.

That idea is what scared us. We kept expecting someone to emerge from that door.   After going back in, to find nothing and no one in there... that was truly upsetting; and left me a bit shaken. Not truly scared.

Now, I believe that maybe, just maybe, something is trying to let us know he/she is still with us. I don't think she means any harm. But, why is she stuck here...

I want to take more photos and see if she appears again. Hmmm... maybe after hours we should just snap off several pics and see what happens...
