Ghosties in the Library

HA! This photo was taken over Halloween - obviously. Part of a children's program/play.  Just found it now in my 'archives' and thought, "I just HAVE to share this one on my blog." It's too funny to NOT share it with you all.

Window Images ~ March 2012

Taken November 2011
I'm adding this November 2011 photograph so you can see that there are 8 sections of windows to this side of the library.

The far left side of the photo is the 900 Non-Fiction section and the lower section is the computer section.

The far right side of the photo is the 0.00+ Non-Fiction section and the lower section is the Teen Zone.

From left to right the windows are:
1 -- 2&3--4&5--6&7--8

Last night, when we walked OUTSIDE past Building Window #2, one of us became all cold and goosebumpy.  We were walking from the left side of the building to the right side - walking on the sidewalk.  When we arrived to Building Window #6, this person was fine.  However, when walking back to our car - walking past Building Window #2 again, this same person felt watched. His skin became goosebumpy and he got cold again.  I have to add, the weather was a wonderful temperature of 70 something degrees. No jacket required.  There was also no breeze - if there was a breeze it was very gentle and non-cooling. No mosquitoes either! Just a wonderful spring night.

Windows appear clear. 3/2012

Shadowy figure in the 4th window from the right. 3/12
(This would be considered building window #4)
I've seen a man in Building Window #4 before! In an earlier post, "All is Quiet..."
Another viewer sees something in the upstairs window on the left, but I can't discern what.

The center window is getting shadowy.
(This would be considered building window #5)

Same window, just not zoomed in - still shadowy.

3/2012 - Clear again.

Getting Emma To Talk

Shortly after we filmed this on my Olympus FE-370 Digital camera, we heard a very distinctive knock.  We were actually photographing the computer section (that is mentioned in a previous post) when we heard the knock.  It completely freaked me out and I almost peed my pants.  However, my brave counterpart walked over to the area from where the noise came.  She was busy asking our Ghostie to, somehow, reveal herself again - I, on-the-other-hand, was literally clinging to my counterpart like a Star Trek Cling-On or a lost Bounce dryer sheet stuck in a pant leg.

Of course... we heard the knock AFTER I turned off the recording device. Why is it always that way?  That can be so annoying when you are trying to prove your encounters are true.  It doesn't matter. We know what we heard and that's all that counts.

The Printing Poltergeist

The Crazy Printer.
At first, most of the encounters I have been told about have occurred in the 'old' or original part of the library.  As time goes on and more of the encounters are told to me for the purpose of putting them all together in one place, this blog, I find that there are a few incidents that happen in the newer sections of the building also.

Take this printer for instance. I've used this printer several times. I think it's a great printer - it works wonderfully.  However, the co-worker whose work area is back here tells me that several times this printer will make noises as if it is ready and going to print something.

My printers at home don't do that, nor do the other printers in the library. Just this one.  There are times when she swears that the power to this printer is shut off.

Electormagnetic weirdness?  Probably.

Bathroom Privacy

Bathroom stalls w/o flash.
When we librarians gather for food, fun and fabulous ghostie tales, the telling just never stops. There is always a newbie to the group that hasn't heard the encounters and librarians are always eager to share information. Last night was no exception.

This encounter happened to two different women on two separate occasions, but in the same bathroom.  The encounter was the same with both of them.

They went to use the public toilets. While there, they heard someone enter the bathroom.  They heard the woman walking thru the bathroom, choose a stall and close the stall door.

Then that was all.

There weren't any further noises coming from the woman in the other stall.  When each co-workers was done, they each noticed, during their own SEPARATE occasion, that the stalls were open and no one else was in the bathroom with them.

Bathroom stalls with flash.

Crying Infant Child

We were all gathered together last night and our ghostie topic came up. It happens to be our favorite thing to talk about, so who's surprised?!

Anyway, one experience between two of my co-workers was that of an infant crying. It was, again, just as they were closing up for the night.  Not just whimpering, but a pretty decent out loud crying.  One of them heard the baby crying, but then, apparently, the crying ceased.  They talked about it and decided that it was possible that someone could have left their baby in the library. They were not going to leave until rechecking the entire library for that crying infant.  The one co-worker was adamant about what she heard and was determined to recheck every area.

Of course, they didn't find the crying infant anywhere.

Odd Happenings in the Computer Section

She just couldn't leave this area alone, so she grabbed my camera and started clicking away.   It was while we were in this section when we heard a very distinctive knocking coming from the Teen Zone.

We didn't notice it at the time, but the very area in which she felt something, was the area with a computer still on.  Maybe it was updating, but usually if one is updating they are all updating.  This picture was taken about 4-5 hours after we closed and the computer is still on.  It just felt a little odd.

There is also an orb in this shot.  An orb can be just a dust particle reflecting the light - we know this. However, again, this photo was taken well after hours - plenty of time for the dust to settle on a slow afternoon of patronage.  My point is, we weren't "kickin' up the dust".

My Co-worker felt something odd in this section.

She kept seeing shadows out of the corner of her eye.

So she thought she'd keep photographing the area.

An odd feeling centering on the center corral.

Five hours after we close, one computer is still on.

Junior Ghost Hunters

We had Junior Ghost  Hunters visit our library today! It was so much fun to see them become excited with their findings.  I can't couch for any validity in their statements. I just know that they did have fun while they were there.

Some of their happenings were:

They left their ball.
- Ball moving on its own, in a back and forth motion.
- Sounds of knocking, tapping, banging, dragging and humming
- Sensations of being tickled, touched, scratched
- Being gently pushed away from the water bubbler. (I told her that would be possible since many of the children became sick from drinking that water all those many years ago. Maybe our Ghostie didn't want her to drink the water and become sick also.)
- Cold spots
- Odd shadows
- Hearing quiet laughing and voices
- One of our Jr. Hunters felt deep sadness and she said she started to cry at one point.

They also took a picture with a camera phone. A green blurry spot appeared in the screen.  They asked all sorts of questions, but most importantly, they asked the questions slowly and gave our ghostie time to answer. Sometimes the questions are asked too rapidly without adequate time for listening to any answers that are given.

I tried to hear what they recorded and heard. Sometimes I could hear something on their phone, but the library was very busy at that time on this particular morning and it was difficult to differentiate between all of the noises.  At any rate, I am glad that they came in and followed up on their Ghost Hunting adventures. One of the girls has been wanting to come in for quite some time. I'm glad she was finally able to fit our little library into her schedule and get some firsthand hunting experience.  I only wish that they were able to come after hours.

I left on a table in the Teen Zone.

Sensor Lights Activate

We had a staff meeting today. We usually hold the meetings prior to opening up the library to the public. The meetings are held in a corner conference room. This conference room has southern and western exposure - windows from floor to ceiling on those two sides. It's beautiful and well lit.

The hallway leading to this room is off of the staff break room. Just next door to this conference room is the Director's office. Further yet down the hallway is a door that leads to a climate controlled entrance - the main entrance to the library.  The hallway is lit by lights that are motion sensor activated.  So, after a certain amount of time if there is no movement in the hallway, the lights will automatically turn off.  Also, as soon as you move so much as a door handle, the lights will automatically turn on.

During our meeting we all remain seated for the majority of the time - meaning - we aren't moving about too much. Sometimes one of us will get up to get more coffee, etc.  We can walk by the doorway of that room without making the sensors activate.  However, today, the lights were activated 3 times.  I wasn't the only one that noticed it either.  My co-worker sitting next to me mentioned it also.

So, watts (LOL) up with that?

We have another area in the library with motion sensor lights. I've not noticed these lights going on without a patron in the area. I see them go OFF while we are working, but not ON without movement under them.

More Rustling Papers

That wasn't the first time that rustling papers have been heard at the library.

When I mentioned the recent activity to another co-worker, she said that she has also heard the papers rustling. When she first mentioned this incident to another co-worker, she remembered thinking that someone was standing behind her trying to get her attention.

I asked her today where she was standing. It turns out that she was in the same area that they were in Monday night.

Is the school teacher trying to get all of his papers graded?  Did he drop them one day?  Or is he frustrated and trying to get the attention of not only his students, but maybe that of my co-workers also?

Rustling Papers

Always as they are leaving for the evening.  It's as though the ghosties can't wait a moment longer!! They have to move. It's almost as if they are getting cramped and have to "shake it out". Sort of like when we've been sitting in the church pew for too long and we get stiff legged. Or like when you are in the car for a few miles too long and can't wait a moment longer!! You just have to stand up and shake it out.

That is how it seems at our library!  The lights are off for just a moment, or someone has to run back to double check to make sure something is turned off or locked.  Tonight the night staff was still putting keys in their proper places when they heard something...

She asked, "Did you hear that?"

"No, nothing. It was probably me putting the key away." came the reply.

"Nope, it sounded like someone was still putting their things away to leave. Like paper rustling. Is everyone gone?"

"I'll go check,"  and out she walks only to quickly turn around with long strides coming back towards the back area. "I heard it too!! There isn't anyone there!"

The page for the evening said he'd go check. So, brazenly, he walks straight out there and upon hearing something, he declares that it's the sound of the wind and the rain on the roof and windows of the building.  He hears the noises too.

Okay, they calm themselves and they leave the building for the evening.  However, once everyone is outside in the parking lot talking ABOUT HOW NICE THE WEATHER IS FOR THE EVENING, it is then that they remember it is NOT raining! Nor is it windy.  They freak just a tiny bit and push it from their minds.

Everyone has to do what they need to so they can sleep at night, right? Even if it means putting it out of their mind...

From the Photos Below...

A reader pointed out to me that he could see an image in the left side upstairs window. It's in the last picture next to the caption: Another nighttime shot from the street.  In this same photo a friend mentioned an image in the lower window - second from the left. Faint, but there.

Yet, another friend mentioned that there is a faint image in the photo next to the caption: Nighttime shot of the Girl In Pink's window.  It would be a faint image in the first window from the left.

I don't know. What do you think?  I know what I see, but I am more interested in what YOU see!

All is Quiet - A Man In The Upstairs Window

Quiet Library after hours.  We haven't noticed anything lately.  Even the latest big snowfall, didn't excite the ghostie-children like I had thought it might.  Not one orb showed up in my photos tonight.

This is a view of the young adult section.  All is quiet after a busy day.
The movies are all put away, as are our ghosties.

Nighttime shot of the Girl In Pink's window.

Another nighttime shot from the street. I didn't see him at first, but in this shot there is a man in the upstairs window. First window from the left. He is peeking around the upstairs post.

I do believe that this would be Building Window #4.

It all seems so quiet lately. I keep thinking that a good snowfall will excite them, but no one has noticed anything with the latest snow falls we had.  I wasn't brave enough to photograph the back stairway by myself tonight, so I let that area alone.  I haven't felt any cold spots on my rounds of book gathering either.

For quite some time... maybe a month or two, specific patrons were regularly sitting in specific areas. I thought maybe the ghosties would NOT like those people sitting in those areas. I thought maybe we'd get some activity after hours, but there hasn't been anything!  As of late, those same patrons have found different spots to sit at.  If the ghosties were disturbed, they didn't show it.

Regardless, it's quiet and I can't help but wonder why.  I have to admit that I'm alright with it being quiet, but I still wonder why and when will our ghostie show herself again?
Cute Happy Ghost
