Cold Spots

When I'm working, I usually print off the list of books that people have asked for, via computer - this list is called the Hold List.  Typically, but not always, I print the list and then get the books without any ghostie occurrence.  However, last night I felt something that I've not felt before.

Some of my co-workers have mentioned several times that there are cold spots in the library.  I have never doubted them, but I never felt it myself.  Well, actually, there is an ENTIRE area that is a bit cooler than the rest, but that same area is also hotter than the rest in the summer.  I don't count this entire area as being a 'cold spot'. Last night some of the holds were in the 0-200 isle section of non-fiction.  The main isle was normal temperature, but when I turned into the 0-200 isle, about 2-3 steps into the isle I could feel a significant drop in temperature.  I didn't shiver, but I thought to myself that it was strange and then  didn't think much more of it because that isle is placed on an outside wall of the building.  However, another friend of mine tells me that she really doesn't like going to this isle because the hairs stand up on the back of her neck.  I'd also like to add that this section consists mainly of religious books - Christianity, wiccan, witchcraft, the Torah, various Bibles, study guides, etc.

I had several other books to grab. Some of them were in the cookbook section, the craft section, sports, etc.  Then the 940 section was next on my list.  All of those other isles were a normal temperature.  The main isle was also a normal temperature, however, again, when I turned into the 940 isle, about 2-3 steps into the isle I could feel a drop in temperature.  This time though, it was different, I swear I could feel a breeze on my face that moved my bangs.

I honestly don't think it was a heater vent/duct work - and at any rate, it wouldn't be blowing out cold air in February in a Northern state.  I don't know what it was, but for the first time, I actually experienced a cold spot.

A co-worker has an amatuer ghost hunter friend.  He came to the library one night with his equipment and recorded a 10 degree temperature drop - cold spots - in a couple parts of the library.

Why is it cold in just one tiny little spot?

*** 2/8/12  Update: I want to add that tonight I checked that cold spot in the 940 section again and I do think it was the duct work.  WHY the air coming out is cool, is beyond me and I may mention it to my boss.  At any rate, I think the 940 cold spot is NOT ghostie related.

  1. 2/11/12 - Another update!! Had my hubby come in to see if he had any thoughts on the duct work blowing cold air vs. it being a cold spot. It happened to be the coldest day of the week and the duct was blowing WARM air. However, the movement of the air DID NOT move my hair.

Also, hubby felt two other cold spots. Now, remember it was the coldest day of the week - almost a bitter cold and he had on a T-shirt, flannel shirt, zipped hooded sweatshirt and a Carhardt jacket --- all that and he felt a cold spot.

I think it's all very strange!
