Shooting Threat At The Library

A man walks into the library with his social worker.

The man does not like to hear what the social worker has to say.

Man says, "I'm going to get my automatic assault rifle and take you and everyone in this library out."

Man then leaves the library.

Social workers comes to the desk asking for assistance.

The library is locked down.

The police are immediately there.

The interior is secured.

The exterior is secured.

The man is apprehended.

Bonding time with my co-workers, priceless.

Keeping the three young children there occupied while another is on the phone with their mothers, priceless.

Going home and ingesting valium and rum punch smoothies, a good way to calm down.

Going home and talking with my Dad and favorite Auntie, priceless.

So Many Changes

There are so many personnel changes going on right now - as well as to come on Jan. 2, 2013.  In addition to personnel changes there will be changes in furniture placement.

I can't wait to listen to the spirit realm. I wonder how they will handle all of the changes.

I'll keep you posted.

Been a While...

I just wanted to let you know I didn't forget about this page. It's just that everything is very quiet right now.

Quiet in the spirit realm that is.  As for the employees... it's been a madhouse.

We got - one out on for medical - one that lost a very close family member - three retiring - three newbies coming on board... soon! Training and then some more training. One has a hubby that is ill. Then another hubby of one of us had an emergency painful kidney stone.  I've got laryngitis since last Thursday. Another just had a death in the family.

It's a madhouse trying to get enough coverage, but we are and we are all still laughing at the end of the day.

After the staffing changes are made, that's probably when we will have more spirit realm activity.

Does The Ghostie Know My Name?

Here is the transcript of the night.... Hope you can hear what my EVP helper does.

***

click of turning on recorder. Loud truck going by. a loud thump - I don't know what that was, the thump. It wasn't the soda machine.)

There's a dog barking outside.

(I begin to move the paper)

Is there anybody here tonight?

Would you like to say anything? (noisy truck going by)

Heather would like to know if you have ever heard (humming starts) of Halloween.

(humm and thump noise from the soda machine)

that was the soda machine.

and there is still that dog barking outside (and a very noisy vehicle)

I would like to know...
there's a car going by (very noisy)

I would like to know who I'm talking to.

Could you tell me a name?

Would you tell me how you died?

Can you tell me how old you are?

Is there anybody else here with you? And I don't mean me.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

(slight clicks and a rumbling truck) Okay, so I'm gonna go now. (extremely loud truck rumbling by the library)

And it's Saturday, so there won't be anyone here tomorrow, although there will be someone here later today.

We had illegal activity going on, on the computer, maybe you saw that? (various clickings again)

Okay, goodbye.

click and me sliding out of the booth noises (vinyl seating) creaking and then me touching the recorder to turn it off.

This is what my EVP helper cleaned up for me.

Hello Tyra - EVP

This EVP is from a few months ago. It's the reason why some of us got so freaked out and backed off of "Ghost Hunting" ... for a short time...  The curiosity is great, but I tread with caution.  My real name is said, for privacy reasons, I didn't want to tell you, but it shows up on the screen... you may figure it out by listening anyway!

My Co-worker was felt-up! LOL By a ghostie??

This is what we said - it's the ONLY things we said.

Okay, it's me and T-
Hi, It's Tyra.
Is anybody here tonight?
Can you tell us your name, please?
Is the girl in the pink dress, in D's picture, here?
(noisy car driving by)
And does she have a name that you would like to tell us?
(more noisy car - same car. I can hear it through the windows/brick wall.)
Do you have a question?
Did you like the turkey story that I read to you last week?
Do T's feet stink?
(T is holding back a laugh) and saying, "I'm afraid they probably do."
"Is there anything you would like to say?"
(T is asking, "Can we go now?")
"Okay, so we're gonna go."
"Goodnight."

Crazy thing was, when T asked, "Can we go now?" it was because she felt someone put a hand on her shoulder.  Kinda freaked her out a bit. She also mentioned that it was a cold feeling - pressure, just like someone placing their hand on her shoulder to lean over and take a peek at the book I was holding.  She felt a sensation go down her shoulder - like someone ran their fingers gently down the back of her shoulder.

When I sent this audio sound byte to my EVP helper, this is what he had to say:  "I also hear what may be her trying to hold back the laugh? but it almost sounds like a whispered "My Hand" (Listen to "Laugh")."

Junior Ghost Hunters Return

They came back. After I had decided that I wasn't going to try and engage the ghosties, they came back - the Jr. Ghost Hunters that is.

So, I let them use my digital recorder and have at it.

Since they could not hear or see a response, they asked if something could be said/asked after hours. They actually wanted to be there after business hours themselves, but we couldn't do that. I told them if they told me what to ask, I'd ask for them........

Now we are awaiting the results.

Good grief Bat Man...

Never Judge a Book... or a Patron by the cover...

We have a few Regulars - patrons that come in at the same time, the same day, etc.  We also have a few that come in everyday.

A patron came up to me last night and asked, "What's with ____?"  I replied that he's harmless and could quite possibly be taking a few classes online.

Undeterred, he spoke out against another patron, also a regular, saying that he "hoped he never went off his meds." I asked if he had any altercations with these other patrons. His reply? "No." However, apparently, they look untrustworthy.

It's because of the tatoos, dark sunglasses, manner of dress and the fact that they are "regulars".

It's a small, small, small, small-minded town... It saddens and angers me.  I've done it in the past myself - judged others on appearances alone, but I am trying to NOT do that anymore.  This time though... it seems to be turning into a witch hunt.

Our society is slowly closing itself off from humanity.  We no longer reach out and verbally communicate with those around us. There is more communication via the computer. Ironically, there are those that will trust what they read on the computer screen as true versus what they could possibly HEAR face-to-face.  It doesn't help that many television shows depict the worst of humanity; pulling from the headlines only the worst scenarios.  This is what we see weekly on our favorite programs - the worst.  However, real life isn't like that everyday. Tattooed humans are not all dregs of society.

I like to wear black. The only reason I don't have a tattoo is because I'm a chicken (and it's expensive, okay that's two reasons). I am a Christian - a follower of Jesus, but I do not appreciate attending church.  I also swear - the F-bomb and 'shit' are my favs. I listen to jazz, blues, Christian, classical, Aerosmith, Disciple, Nickelback, Duran Duran, Irish instrument, violin and many others.  However, "my" patrons, don't know all of that about me. After I had gotten to know one of them - outside of the library for a few days - he said he about fell over when I turned on the radio and it was locked on a hard rock station.  Then, when I replied, "Well, what the hell? I can't listen to rock music because I work at a library?" - He about died laughing because I swore!  He was also stunned because I actually reached out and had a conversation with him - face-to-face. He asked me why and I told him, "Because I didn't think you would judge me." We then laughed because he DID judge me!

"Never Judge a Book By It's Cover" - should also apply to humans.  After all, even Ted Bundy was reportedly handsome and clean-cut.

The Things Patrons Say....

There once was a lady who worked in a library.  Some of the things overheard were quite scary.  Patrons come in and patrons go out, it makes me laugh some of the things they spout!

Overhearing a cell phone conversation - which by-the-way, we have signs all over stating "NO CELL PHONE USAGE".  The crazy line we overheard was: "I've had sex with so many guys I'm surprised that my tests all came back negative for diseases."  She was sitting near the Children's Area.

Just sayin'...

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Had a patron get mad over a fine today....  Said patron left in a huff, but not before dropping a nasty name on one of our employees!  The thing was, the patron came in all sweet and polite, but once the fine was mentioned and the book was checked out it turned ugly!  Sometimes that happens... the patrons you think will be angry are so understanding and the ones you think will be alright, wanna whomp ya' over the head with their book!

I once had a guy call me a bitch over the phone.

Another patron came in one night and while walking out called someone a bitch because we asked him to quiet down.

A young lady had to be escorted out of the building for lying about her identity - to three of us in one night!

No Activity

Even though I'm not actively seeking out a conversation with our resident ghostie(s), I wanted to let you know that we don't have any activity going on right now.

Almost all of us want to let things relax. One of us seems to think, "Maybe it just wants to be left alone."

After I read Jemima Puddleduck, the EVP registered, "I heard this already."

One area of the library seems to be child-like. Another part seems very adult and upset.

We're letting things "just be".

The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck

Last night, I chose to read The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck for two reasons: 1) It was SHORT and 2) It was written by Beatrix Potter who happened to have lived in the late 1800's and  into the 1900's. A friend and I thought this would be a good author to start out with.

The whole incident, from start to finishing with me walking out the door, was recorded in under 12 min.  An initial analysis from the EVPER on youtube indicates a possible EVP greeting with my name in it. I was a bit stunned to say the least. Stunned with a huge smile on my face!!

Digital Voice Recorder

This is the newest addition to my newest hobby - an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder!

I can't wait to use it!

Bedtime Stories

I'm going to record myself reading a story one night after work.  I plan to sit down and read it to them.

Do you have any suggestions for stories to read? I want a short one!! Geez, do I need to explain why? LOL

I don't want one that is super modern.

I don't want one about ghosts!!

I also don't want one that is too babyish.

Junior Ghost Hunters

Here is an original clip that I recorded of some of our Junior Ghost Hunters asking a few questions.

Before you listen to the following clip, do you think you hear anything? I missed it.

Here is some information from the very nice man running my clips thru his sound system (his link is on the youtube account for you to follow him there.):  'NOTE:  It's common for spirits to interject comments while people are speaking, I believe they do this to use our voices for energy purpose's and because they also don't have any vocal cords.  Sometimes there can be such a short interval between our spoken words that their message has to fit in that short gap and it gets recorded at a faster rate and needs to be slowed down for us to hear it.'

This short clip is the possible EVP response to the young man on the left asking the questions, "How did you die?"

For more information, feel free to look at my youtube page. The link is just to the right ---->

Trying to Recreate What They Heard

Here is a link to my youtube video clip.

Trying to Recreate the Ruckus video clip

This was taken a few days after my coworkers heard the incredible noises coming from within the library --- after hours. So loud, in fact, that they decided they needed to call the Director.  We are trying to recreate the ruckus they heard.

Whatever it was, it was very loud...

More incredible is the possible EVP that is caught on here.  I'm not asking the kids at the top of the stairs if they are going to scare me - I was talking to the ghostie...

What do you think?

EVP from July 2, 2012 #1

Clicks, hums and once the sound byte was filtered by a new acquaintance a question was heard - "Who is this?" If you listen at 2:04 on the youtube video - let me know what you think. The link for the youtube channel is in the right margin of this blog. If you can't find it, I'll make it easy for you... here's a link to the video!

July 1, 2012 Night Window Observations

My vehicle stayed in the same spot. All I did was zoom in - zoom out - zoom in. I don't think I'm seeing Emma though.  The night we used a recording device, Emma said she wasn't the only child there...

If you can't find anything, that's alright. I know what I see.
I don't want to influence you.

Another in the same window, but I zoomed OUT
to get more windows.

Everyone's gone.
Again, I didn't move the vehicle, I  simply zoomed in
with the lens.

Parallel Dimensions....

I really wanted some possible answers to a few ghostie questions. So, I did an internet search for ghost hunters! I found several groups and posted my questions to them.  I received a few answers from one of them.  He gave me this little tidbit to think about.

"The other explanation to the events that are occuring in your library might be a phasing in of a parallel dimension that is overlapping into this realm and the children are from that other dimension.  You might give some thought to parallel worlds and overlapping dimensions. In some cases, ghost stories can be explained by both ghosts or overlapping dimensions.  I have personally witness overlapping dimensions three or four times during our 12 years traveling full time in our RV.  I have had reports from our **** Society members of similar experiences of overlapping dimensions so not all of us are crazy."

Tell me, what do you think?

Image at the Window - Emma's Window

In a June 29, 2012 email from a member of a Ghost Hunting Society,  he states:

Emma reading a book.
Images captured in windows are highly unreliable as windows act as reflections and based on the angle of the observer the shadows in windows might be confused as being paranormal.  However, unless the full body apparition can be observed, not just a shadow, the odds are too great that the shadow is from a natural occurring source.

Regardless of what we see here, our original photos from November, 2011 (Photos of Emma) are NOT just a shadow. The photos taken are a full body apparition! How exciting!

So, is Emma a ghost or a spirit?  One person thought she was more spirit than ghost because she appears to have looked up at the photographer in the second photo taken of her - meaning she REACTED to someone.  Whereas, a ghost, he explained, does not react or communicate with blood-flowing humans.

Ghost or Spirit?

I don't know what we have at the library. There are so many definitions to ghost - as well as to spirit, that it can all be confusing.  What if we have BOTH!! At any rate, I found a few websites with some definitions of both that you might find interesting.

I like this one the best -

Ghost Activity and Moon Phases

I emailed a gentleman from a ghost hunting society and asked him about our library.

He wrote: Ghost activity is always greater two or three days on each side of the new and full moons. In between these lunar cycles ghostly activity seems to drop off. Ghosts feed off of geomagnetic energy to appear in this dimension and the full and new moons are the strongest peaks of geomagnetic energy.  Also during solar storms, the incoming ions provided the energy to appear in our realm.

This made me want to check into what the moon phase was from when Emma's picture was first taken.  I think the photo was taken around Nov. 12, 2011 - right around a full moon. How interesting!

Footsteps....

It isn't the first time.

Our Assistant Director told me that when she is there alone at night, she will hear footsteps on the stairs going up to her work area.  She stops what she is doing, listens and then the sound stops. She told me that it has happened on more than one occasion.

Just about two weeks ago, my co-workers worked late to practice for a puppet play.  The next time we worked together I specifically asked her if she heard anything since they were there after hours. She told me that they did. They were sitting at the bottom of the stairway mentioned by our Assistant Director.  She told me that it sounded as if someone was starting to walk up the stairs, but when they looked up to see who was there the sound stopped.  My co-worker told me that she and the Intern who also heard the noise were a bit freaked and all to ready to go home afterwards.

There aren't any vents or ductwork under those stairs. Just thought I'd mention it.

Time to Go Hunting...

It's been awhile since I've been at the library after hours. Since it's summer, it stays light outside for longer. It's not as much fun ghost hunting when there is daylight.  Also, everyone has been so busy lately. It makes it a challenge to find someone to go with me -- and be serious!  However, I think with some of the recent possible activity, that maybe - just maybe the ghosties miss us too!~

Again... In The Elevator

Busy elevator
Even when empty!

Just when I was thinking that things have been so quiet lately....
Around 5:30-6p.m., there were three of us up at the front desk. There weren't any patrons around the desk at that time.  The elevator had been used since I had arrived at work around 4p.m., but no one had used it immediately prior to this event.

We were standing up front  doing our "desk thing", one of the interns was telling us about his day when the elevator door opened.  No one came out of it.

We all just stood there for a second looking at it. Finally, I said, "Well, they do like to take the elevator you know."  Someone said, "Creepy!" and we went back to our duties.

A Haunted Employee....

Bathroom? Is the employee bathroom haunted now too?  You decided.

I was working on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Along with three other library employees.  While I was on break, I heard the employee toilet flush - three times in a row. I thought to myself, "Uh-oh, someone couldn't get it all down in one flush."  I then went about my duties.

Later, I was just outside the same bathroom door and the paper towel dispenser activated.  The light was off in there. Nobody was using the bathroom... One of the pages heard it at the same time. We both looked at each other and I said, "There's no one in there."  He replied that the ghost was in the bathroom.  I said, "Well, they want clean hands too I guess."  However, then he told me that when he was near the bathroom he and the other page heard the toilet flush again and again!!!  So then I decided that I wasn't going to use the employee bathroom that day.

Here's the kicker - the paper towel dispenser and the toilet has a motion sensor. So, the paper towel dispenser will only give you the next sheet if motion is detected in front of the "eye-sensor".  The toilet is set up the same way - as soon as you 'finish the paper work' and get up, the toilet will automatically flush. You CAN also flush it with the push of a button, but  I don't know if it can be flushed three times - quickly - in  a row... I think the tank would need to fill up with water by the third flush...

Poltergeist Printer

I was informed that the printers were at it again.  Just last week, I guess. The computers were off as were the coordinating printers.  My co-worker said she heard them making noises like they were about to print something.  She heard them in front of our boss and she said, "Please tell me that you are hearing this too."  He heard it and just shrugged his shoulders saying, "I don't know."

What's up with that?

Ghosties in the Library

HA! This photo was taken over Halloween - obviously. Part of a children's program/play.  Just found it now in my 'archives' and thought, "I just HAVE to share this one on my blog." It's too funny to NOT share it with you all.

Window Images ~ March 2012

Taken November 2011
I'm adding this November 2011 photograph so you can see that there are 8 sections of windows to this side of the library.

The far left side of the photo is the 900 Non-Fiction section and the lower section is the computer section.

The far right side of the photo is the 0.00+ Non-Fiction section and the lower section is the Teen Zone.

From left to right the windows are:
1 -- 2&3--4&5--6&7--8

Last night, when we walked OUTSIDE past Building Window #2, one of us became all cold and goosebumpy.  We were walking from the left side of the building to the right side - walking on the sidewalk.  When we arrived to Building Window #6, this person was fine.  However, when walking back to our car - walking past Building Window #2 again, this same person felt watched. His skin became goosebumpy and he got cold again.  I have to add, the weather was a wonderful temperature of 70 something degrees. No jacket required.  There was also no breeze - if there was a breeze it was very gentle and non-cooling. No mosquitoes either! Just a wonderful spring night.

Windows appear clear. 3/2012

Shadowy figure in the 4th window from the right. 3/12
(This would be considered building window #4)
I've seen a man in Building Window #4 before! In an earlier post, "All is Quiet..."
Another viewer sees something in the upstairs window on the left, but I can't discern what.

The center window is getting shadowy.
(This would be considered building window #5)

Same window, just not zoomed in - still shadowy.

3/2012 - Clear again.

Getting Emma To Talk

Shortly after we filmed this on my Olympus FE-370 Digital camera, we heard a very distinctive knock.  We were actually photographing the computer section (that is mentioned in a previous post) when we heard the knock.  It completely freaked me out and I almost peed my pants.  However, my brave counterpart walked over to the area from where the noise came.  She was busy asking our Ghostie to, somehow, reveal herself again - I, on-the-other-hand, was literally clinging to my counterpart like a Star Trek Cling-On or a lost Bounce dryer sheet stuck in a pant leg.

Of course... we heard the knock AFTER I turned off the recording device. Why is it always that way?  That can be so annoying when you are trying to prove your encounters are true.  It doesn't matter. We know what we heard and that's all that counts.

The Printing Poltergeist

The Crazy Printer.
At first, most of the encounters I have been told about have occurred in the 'old' or original part of the library.  As time goes on and more of the encounters are told to me for the purpose of putting them all together in one place, this blog, I find that there are a few incidents that happen in the newer sections of the building also.

Take this printer for instance. I've used this printer several times. I think it's a great printer - it works wonderfully.  However, the co-worker whose work area is back here tells me that several times this printer will make noises as if it is ready and going to print something.

My printers at home don't do that, nor do the other printers in the library. Just this one.  There are times when she swears that the power to this printer is shut off.

Electormagnetic weirdness?  Probably.

Bathroom Privacy

Bathroom stalls w/o flash.
When we librarians gather for food, fun and fabulous ghostie tales, the telling just never stops. There is always a newbie to the group that hasn't heard the encounters and librarians are always eager to share information. Last night was no exception.

This encounter happened to two different women on two separate occasions, but in the same bathroom.  The encounter was the same with both of them.

They went to use the public toilets. While there, they heard someone enter the bathroom.  They heard the woman walking thru the bathroom, choose a stall and close the stall door.

Then that was all.

There weren't any further noises coming from the woman in the other stall.  When each co-workers was done, they each noticed, during their own SEPARATE occasion, that the stalls were open and no one else was in the bathroom with them.

Bathroom stalls with flash.

Crying Infant Child

We were all gathered together last night and our ghostie topic came up. It happens to be our favorite thing to talk about, so who's surprised?!

Anyway, one experience between two of my co-workers was that of an infant crying. It was, again, just as they were closing up for the night.  Not just whimpering, but a pretty decent out loud crying.  One of them heard the baby crying, but then, apparently, the crying ceased.  They talked about it and decided that it was possible that someone could have left their baby in the library. They were not going to leave until rechecking the entire library for that crying infant.  The one co-worker was adamant about what she heard and was determined to recheck every area.

Of course, they didn't find the crying infant anywhere.

Odd Happenings in the Computer Section

She just couldn't leave this area alone, so she grabbed my camera and started clicking away.   It was while we were in this section when we heard a very distinctive knocking coming from the Teen Zone.

We didn't notice it at the time, but the very area in which she felt something, was the area with a computer still on.  Maybe it was updating, but usually if one is updating they are all updating.  This picture was taken about 4-5 hours after we closed and the computer is still on.  It just felt a little odd.

There is also an orb in this shot.  An orb can be just a dust particle reflecting the light - we know this. However, again, this photo was taken well after hours - plenty of time for the dust to settle on a slow afternoon of patronage.  My point is, we weren't "kickin' up the dust".

My Co-worker felt something odd in this section.

She kept seeing shadows out of the corner of her eye.

So she thought she'd keep photographing the area.

An odd feeling centering on the center corral.

Five hours after we close, one computer is still on.

Junior Ghost Hunters

We had Junior Ghost  Hunters visit our library today! It was so much fun to see them become excited with their findings.  I can't couch for any validity in their statements. I just know that they did have fun while they were there.

Some of their happenings were:

They left their ball.
- Ball moving on its own, in a back and forth motion.
- Sounds of knocking, tapping, banging, dragging and humming
- Sensations of being tickled, touched, scratched
- Being gently pushed away from the water bubbler. (I told her that would be possible since many of the children became sick from drinking that water all those many years ago. Maybe our Ghostie didn't want her to drink the water and become sick also.)
- Cold spots
- Odd shadows
- Hearing quiet laughing and voices
- One of our Jr. Hunters felt deep sadness and she said she started to cry at one point.

They also took a picture with a camera phone. A green blurry spot appeared in the screen.  They asked all sorts of questions, but most importantly, they asked the questions slowly and gave our ghostie time to answer. Sometimes the questions are asked too rapidly without adequate time for listening to any answers that are given.

I tried to hear what they recorded and heard. Sometimes I could hear something on their phone, but the library was very busy at that time on this particular morning and it was difficult to differentiate between all of the noises.  At any rate, I am glad that they came in and followed up on their Ghost Hunting adventures. One of the girls has been wanting to come in for quite some time. I'm glad she was finally able to fit our little library into her schedule and get some firsthand hunting experience.  I only wish that they were able to come after hours.

I left on a table in the Teen Zone.

View of their ball from outside, after hours.

Sensor Lights Activate

We had a staff meeting today. We usually hold the meetings prior to opening up the library to the public. The meetings are held in a corner conference room. This conference room has southern and western exposure - windows from floor to ceiling on those two sides. It's beautiful and well lit.

The hallway leading to this room is off of the staff break room. Just next door to this conference room is the Director's office. Further yet down the hallway is a door that leads to a climate controlled entrance - the main entrance to the library.  The hallway is lit by lights that are motion sensor activated.  So, after a certain amount of time if there is no movement in the hallway, the lights will automatically turn off.  Also, as soon as you move so much as a door handle, the lights will automatically turn on.

During our meeting we all remain seated for the majority of the time - meaning - we aren't moving about too much. Sometimes one of us will get up to get more coffee, etc.  We can walk by the doorway of that room without making the sensors activate.  However, today, the lights were activated 3 times.  I wasn't the only one that noticed it either.  My co-worker sitting next to me mentioned it also.

So, watts (LOL) up with that?

We have another area in the library with motion sensor lights. I've not noticed these lights going on without a patron in the area. I see them go OFF while we are working, but not ON without movement under them.

More Rustling Papers

That wasn't the first time that rustling papers have been heard at the library.

When I mentioned the recent activity to another co-worker, she said that she has also heard the papers rustling. When she first mentioned this incident to another co-worker, she remembered thinking that someone was standing behind her trying to get her attention.

I asked her today where she was standing. It turns out that she was in the same area that they were in Monday night.

Is the school teacher trying to get all of his papers graded?  Did he drop them one day?  Or is he frustrated and trying to get the attention of not only his students, but maybe that of my co-workers also?

Rustling Papers

Always as they are leaving for the evening.  It's as though the ghosties can't wait a moment longer!! They have to move. It's almost as if they are getting cramped and have to "shake it out". Sort of like when we've been sitting in the church pew for too long and we get stiff legged. Or like when you are in the car for a few miles too long and can't wait a moment longer!! You just have to stand up and shake it out.

That is how it seems at our library!  The lights are off for just a moment, or someone has to run back to double check to make sure something is turned off or locked.  Tonight the night staff was still putting keys in their proper places when they heard something...

She asked, "Did you hear that?"

"No, nothing. It was probably me putting the key away." came the reply.

"Nope, it sounded like someone was still putting their things away to leave. Like paper rustling. Is everyone gone?"

"I'll go check,"  and out she walks only to quickly turn around with long strides coming back towards the back area. "I heard it too!! There isn't anyone there!"

The page for the evening said he'd go check. So, brazenly, he walks straight out there and upon hearing something, he declares that it's the sound of the wind and the rain on the roof and windows of the building.  He hears the noises too.

Okay, they calm themselves and they leave the building for the evening.  However, once everyone is outside in the parking lot talking ABOUT HOW NICE THE WEATHER IS FOR THE EVENING, it is then that they remember it is NOT raining! Nor is it windy.  They freak just a tiny bit and push it from their minds.

Everyone has to do what they need to so they can sleep at night, right? Even if it means putting it out of their mind...

From the Photos Below...

A reader pointed out to me that he could see an image in the left side upstairs window. It's in the last picture next to the caption: Another nighttime shot from the street.  In this same photo a friend mentioned an image in the lower window - second from the left. Faint, but there.

Yet, another friend mentioned that there is a faint image in the photo next to the caption: Nighttime shot of the Girl In Pink's window.  It would be a faint image in the first window from the left.

I don't know. What do you think?  I know what I see, but I am more interested in what YOU see!

All is Quiet - A Man In The Upstairs Window

Quiet Library after hours.  We haven't noticed anything lately.  Even the latest big snowfall, didn't excite the ghostie-children like I had thought it might.  Not one orb showed up in my photos tonight.

This is a view of the young adult section.  All is quiet after a busy day.
The movies are all put away, as are our ghosties.

Nighttime shot of the Girl In Pink's window.

Another nighttime shot from the street. I didn't see him at first, but in this shot there is a man in the upstairs window. First window from the left. He is peeking around the upstairs post.

I do believe that this would be Building Window #4.

It all seems so quiet lately. I keep thinking that a good snowfall will excite them, but no one has noticed anything with the latest snow falls we had.  I wasn't brave enough to photograph the back stairway by myself tonight, so I let that area alone.  I haven't felt any cold spots on my rounds of book gathering either.

For quite some time... maybe a month or two, specific patrons were regularly sitting in specific areas. I thought maybe the ghosties would NOT like those people sitting in those areas. I thought maybe we'd get some activity after hours, but there hasn't been anything!  As of late, those same patrons have found different spots to sit at.  If the ghosties were disturbed, they didn't show it.

Regardless, it's quiet and I can't help but wonder why.  I have to admit that I'm alright with it being quiet, but I still wonder why and when will our ghostie show herself again?

Cold Spots

When I'm working, I usually print off the list of books that people have asked for, via computer - this list is called the Hold List.  Typically, but not always, I print the list and then get the books without any ghostie occurrence.  However, last night I felt something that I've not felt before.

Some of my co-workers have mentioned several times that there are cold spots in the library.  I have never doubted them, but I never felt it myself.  Well, actually, there is an ENTIRE area that is a bit cooler than the rest, but that same area is also hotter than the rest in the summer.  I don't count this entire area as being a 'cold spot'. Last night some of the holds were in the 0-200 isle section of non-fiction.  The main isle was normal temperature, but when I turned into the 0-200 isle, about 2-3 steps into the isle I could feel a significant drop in temperature.  I didn't shiver, but I thought to myself that it was strange and then  didn't think much more of it because that isle is placed on an outside wall of the building.  However, another friend of mine tells me that she really doesn't like going to this isle because the hairs stand up on the back of her neck.  I'd also like to add that this section consists mainly of religious books - Christianity, wiccan, witchcraft, the Torah, various Bibles, study guides, etc.

I had several other books to grab. Some of them were in the cookbook section, the craft section, sports, etc.  Then the 940 section was next on my list.  All of those other isles were a normal temperature.  The main isle was also a normal temperature, however, again, when I turned into the 940 isle, about 2-3 steps into the isle I could feel a drop in temperature.  This time though, it was different, I swear I could feel a breeze on my face that moved my bangs.

I honestly don't think it was a heater vent/duct work - and at any rate, it wouldn't be blowing out cold air in February in a Northern state.  I don't know what it was, but for the first time, I actually experienced a cold spot.

A co-worker has an amatuer ghost hunter friend.  He came to the library one night with his equipment and recorded a 10 degree temperature drop - cold spots - in a couple parts of the library.

Why is it cold in just one tiny little spot?

*** 2/8/12  Update: I want to add that tonight I checked that cold spot in the 940 section again and I do think it was the duct work.  WHY the air coming out is cool, is beyond me and I may mention it to my boss.  At any rate, I think the 940 cold spot is NOT ghostie related.

Alarms and Elevator Activity

We've been having a security alarm go off at the library.  The alarm code reads as Zone 8.  The other night it went off twice.  After it was done, the Assistant Director went to check the security panel, yup, Zone 8.  Shortly thereafter, as she was discussing this with us... she told us that we do not have a Zone 8.

This isn't the first time Zone 8 has shown up on the security panel.  Then the phone rings, it happens to be ADT - "Our system is showing an alarm sounding in Zone 8."  I tell them, "Just one minute, please, I will get the Assistant Director on the line."  She explains to ADT that we do not have a Zone 8 and that this isn't the first time that our security panel has read "Zone 8".  They say that they will send someone out.

We discuss it further and decide that it's the ghostie setting off the alarm for a zone that does not exist.  A portal to another realm? - we joke. Since our girl in the pink dress had her picture taken, I do believe that this will make the third time that the alarm has gone off for Zone 8.  It is always declared as a 'communication error'.  A communication error? No kidding?!

What was really funny/strange, and what made me decide to blog about this past Monday night was that shortly after the alarm went off, the elevator came down from the second floor and the door opened.  I jokingly said, "Well, hello Ghostie. Come on down and get a book then, if that's what you wanted."  My co-worker just laughed at me and we went back to our books.   However, the joke was on us when the door closed and the elevator went back up to the second floor!   I said, "I guess Ghostie wasn't coming down, but was going up."  We just laughed it off.

I have to wonder though... who was laughing at whom?

Christmas Break

Over Christmas break, we had a young man visit the library after hours to do some amature ghost hunting.  I wasn't able to attend that night, so I don't know if anything came up on the sensors, recorders, etc.

I will let you know asap.
